National Garden Festival

Making Buffalo a Go-To Gardening Destination

What is the National Garden Festival?

Parkside Garden TourA great “green” umbrella under which Garden Walk Buffalo, other Buffalo Niagara garden walks, open gardens, garden-related events, symposia and tours will be packaged and promoted to attract visitors—including locals who will be encouraged to be a tourist in our own backyard.

Why create a garden festival?

The Atlantic magazine’s web site recently described Garden Walk Buffalo as “America’s best event of its kind.” The National Garden Festival intends to build upon the very real excitement, publicity and visibility already created by Garden Walk Buffalo. A multi-week festival expands the opportunities for garden tourists to visit Buffalo beyond Garden Walk weekend, and builds on Americans’ growing obsession with all things green.

What organizations are involved in producing the Garden Festival?

Visit Buffalo Niagara, Garden Walk Buffalo, the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy, the Buffalo & Erie County Botanical Gardens, Buffalo Spree, and the Western New York Nursery and Landscape Association. Other important collaborators include District 8 Federated Garden Clubs, the WNY Hosta Society, Buffalo in Bloom and other specialty plant societies.

When will the Garden Festival take place?

The 2013 National Garden Festival will be held from June 21 through August 4.

Where will the Garden Festival take place?

In gardens throughout Erie and Niagara Counties, including the Delaware Park Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden at the Historical Society, the Botanical Gardens, the Erie Basin Marina Gardens, the Buffalo Olmsted Parks and Parkways, our garden centers, nature preserves, and arboreta.

What can the National Garden Festival do for my organization?

In addition to bringing visitors and enhancing the image of Buffalo as a gardening mecca, Visit Buffalo Niagara will be publicizing all the activities of the festival-including your event if it fits under the “Green Umbrella.” Contact Project Coordinator, Sally Cunningham, today with your garden-related event or program.
